The Hop Head team has our trip planned to the Hallertau region of Germany for this year’s selection. One of our favorite hops to select is Hallertau Blanc. a standout variety from the original German hop-growing region. It is cultivated in the Hallertau region in the Bavaria State, known as the largest continuous hop-growing area in the world. One-third of the world’s hops are grown in Germany, with 80% harvested in the Hallertau region. Since its release in 2012 by the Hüll Institute, Hallertau Blanc has gained a reputation for providing brewers with unique flavors and aromas.
USE: AROMA
Descriptors of HALLERTAU BLANC HOP:
White wine, Gooseberry with notes of passion fruit, grapefruit, pineapple, and lemongrass.
ALPHA: 8.54% | BETA: 5.80% | CoH%: 23.50% | CoL%: 41.00% | Total Oils: 0.8
Over time, alpha acids in hops can degrade, and after 6 months of storage, some changes in bitterness potential may occur. Proper storage conditions help maintain hop quality and preserve the distinct characteristics of Hallertau Blanc.
Blanc is a great addition to American Style Ales, IPA’s, Belgians, Wheat and Brett beers.
