Otter Creek Brewing Company in Middlebury VT has built a reputation for pumping out great IPA’s like Berner, Free Flow and Head Charge. Hop Heads like us love drinking different hop combinations in IPA’s, but we appreciate a well done Pilsner from time to time. Head Brewer at Otter Creek, Nick Smith, thought time was now to put his put his take on this this traditional style.
While going through our hop varieties with @HopHeadFarmsHunter Nick decided to work with MI Magnum, MI Zuper Saazer and our German variety Grungeist He also used Pilsen Malt from Proximity to make this a true collab beer. The 3 distinct hops in this hop bill offer a range of flavors and aromas like peach, passion fruit and lemon zest are balanced perfect with the the Pilsen malt. The name Green Ghost Pilsner comes from the translation of the German hop Grungeist.
Nick and the team have been busy working on trials of what he calls “a rounded take on the German Pilsner beer style, with exaggerated American style late hopping”
This clean, crisp Pilsner is available at the Otter Creek tap room and will be featured at the Vermont Brewers fest July 20 and 21st in Burlington VT. Look for the Green Ghost in the Green Mountains. – Cheers
