The Styrian Wolf variety comes to us from the Slovenian Institute for Hop Research and Brewing in Zalec Slovenia. It is a public research, developmental, advisory and educational organization that also brings us Styrian Dragon, Fox and Golding. Our team works closely with the institute to select these varieties for U.S craft brewers.
Styrian Wolf has dominant strawberry flavors with slight savory passion fruit, mango, spice, citrus and floral aromas topped with notes of herbal anise and black licorice. Alpha Acids of 12.40%, 4.74% Beta, 23.50% CoH% and 3.20% total oils.
We have seen U.S craft brewers use this dual purpose hop to create some great unique IPA’s and Pale Ales. Firestone Walker Brewing Co. just featured Styrian Wolf in the latest PROPAGATOR SERIES . They brewed a 4.7% abv single hop Pale Ale. Look for it on tap at the Venice CA brewery.
